Praha - Oh what a beautiful city!

After such a wonderful Christmas, it was rise and shine on Boxing Day for our flight to Praha! When I left Praha almost 7 years ago as part of my grad program, I never thought I would be back. I never thought I would be back on account of not having another opportunity to go back as well as having a 'been there done that' mentality.... boy was I wrong on both accounts! I am beyond blessed and we all had a wonderful time on the trip. While my early 20s experience was quite different from this last trip (late 20s for a few more days!), I enjoyed it just as much and loved sharing the experience with my family!

We clearly enjoyed this trip, as we ended up with the most pictures we have ever taken on a trip before...close to 600! haha We went a little photo crazy... but it was our first trip with our new camera (that we absolutely LOVE!) and we did a photography tour... so I say the extra photos are totally justified :)

Since we got in so early, we had almost a full day to wonder around the Old Town Square. The Christmas Market and tree were still up, giving it an extra sparkle.

The market also had a pettting zoo... so it only seemed fitting to feed the sheep!
The food looked delicious..... Hogs over the open grill and chimney stacks rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

A few pics in front of the astronomical Clock.  Per wikipedia, it was installed in 1410, making it the 3rd oldest in the world and the oldest one still working.

After some wondering, we stopped in to warm up and get a small bite to eat and drink. Given Prague has the highest consumption of beer in the world per captia it was easy to find a brewery that fit what we were looking for!

Then it was back to wondering and getting lost on these beautiful streets

We headed to Powder tower in the afternoon for some great views
I got a little creative with pulling some of the pictures together we took :)
The photos were not planned... but they look pretty cool all together and highlight some of the awesome views of the city
Jeffrey being silly!
The city is beautiful at this time of year!
I don't normally include pictures of the hotels or airbnb but this one was pretty cool. It was owned by an Italian designer and was located right behind the old town square. The bathroom had a solid glass to the bathroom and the shower didn't have a curtain. It was pretty cool design, not practical but fun for a weekend!
The second day we wondered up to the castle and monastery.

I had forgotten the all the shops and stores on the way up to the castle.... and I certainly didn't recall the little boy that people touch in appropriately! haha

The tree in front of the cathedral was beautiful!
There was a short queue to get inside.. and it was just as breathtaking as I had remembered!
Fun fact... the Prague castle dates back to the 9th century and it has been coined the largest castle in world by the Guinness book of world records per wikipedia.

Enjoying some mulled wine!

Breathtaking views!
Doing a little postcard writing :)

After the castle it was over to the Monastry for some meat and potatoes...

with a beer to wash it all down :)
Being silly!

I had grand plans to go to a wine and fondue restaurant, Monarchy, for dinner but turns out a lot can happen in 7 years! They no longer did fondue... so we headed back to an oyster restaurant we saw earlier in the day. Once inside, I realized this was a place that used to be a bar I frequented when I was here for grad school!

We went with the seafood platter for two and it was more than plenty for the four of us. It had almost every little creature from the sea that you could want... and it was delicious. Overall it was a win in our books for dinner!

Given David loves photography, we booked a sunrise photography tour for everyone for Christmas. Yes... sunrise is early and it was freezing outside... literately there were icicles! Regardless, we had all fun playing with the settings on the camera, taking some great photos and stopping every once and awhile to warm up... even if it was in McDonalds!
Our first photo of the day!
It was more difficult to take than you would think because
we had to adjust multiple settings
Our panorama of the city at sunrise
We walked back through the monastery and
he showed us some different angles to take the photos
This one was fun... it was take through the reflection in the mirror
This one shows the peeking spires through the allies.  Fun fact... the city's nick name is the 'city of a hundred spires'
We were snapping away all morning.. not just of all buildings and surroundings...
but of each other taking pictures too :)
It was REALLY cold outside though.. so we had to stay bundled up!
A cool shot from Jeffrey... he added the miniature effect
to the photo taking it to that next level
I got down low and was able to capture a great photo here.
I had heard about the peeing statues and our guide took us by them...
very interesting art these days!
I have to say this is one of the best photos from the tour.... you have the bridge, the sun trying to peak out and reflecting in the water and some birds to make it complete.

They have must have a lock bridge in lots of European cities...
I think I saw one in London just the other day too.
This photo gives a cool perspective on it though...
we were able to get the icicle in the photo too.
Good photos from the bridge
Overall I think we all had a good time on the tour! We ended about lunch time, so we had some time left to head towards new town square and the dancing building. Then it was off to the train station to start the next adventure! Phyllis and David were off to Paris and we were off to Berlin
After such as great trip... who knows maybe in
another few years we will be back again :)
It is in the top 5 European cities visited!!!
